"I was young and now I’m old, but I have never seen the righteous forsaken, or their seed begging for bread" (Psalm 37:25).
This is the scripture that Rev. Adreania McMillian Tolliver, a native of Newport News, VA stands on. She is a 3rd generation preacher. Rev. Adreania is the daughter of the late Deacon Willie and Deaconess Lois McMillian. Rev. Adreania was licensed in 1996 by Rev. Robert Samuels of First United Baptist Church in Newport News, VA and later ordained as a Baptist minister.
Rev. Adreania received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Wayland Baptist University and several Associates degrees. She is also a two-time graduate with honors from Virginia Union University, Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology, where she received a Master of Divinity Degree and Master of Arts in Christian Education. She is also a recipient of an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Tabernacle Divinity School. Rev. Adreania currently is a Doctoral Student at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. She has also received a certificate in Congregational Care from Virginia Institute of Pastoral Care, which led her to hold membership with AAPC (American Association of Pastoral Counselors). Rev. Adreania is the recipient of the G.R.A.C.E. Award for Christian Educators Association in Greater Richmond and currently holds membership with them as well.
Rev. Adreania is a veteran of the United States Air Force where she worked in aerovac and as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Instructor. Currently, she works as a Certified Master Trainer and Curriculum Developer.
God has opened many doors of opportunity for Rev. Adreania to serve in different ministries within the Kingdom such as Women’s Ministry Organizer, Christian Education Director, Nursing Ministry Trainer and pastoring, just to name a few. Rev. Adreania believes she is called to help others walk in their purpose, and she tries to do that wherever God sends her.
Rev. Adreania interned for several years at First Baptist Church of South Richmond under Pastor, Rev. Dr. Dwight C. Jones, where she developed small group leader’s training, lay counselors training, and spiritual formation training for ministers. Rev. Adreania also served as an Associate Minister at St. Paul's Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, under Pastor, Rev. Dr. Lance D. Watson, where she ministered as a Grief Counselor in the Barnabas Counseling Ministry. She currently is the Dean of Christian Education at Tabernacle Divinity School in Hopewell, VA.
Rev. Adreania has published sermons in the African American Pulpit Journal (currently known as The African American Lectionary) and Good Morning Sunshine (Encouraging Words in a Pandemic). In her spare time, she volunteers with American Cancer Society ,Central Office of Susan G. Komen Foundation and spends time with family. She is also a member of the NAACP.
Jesus tells us to “...love thy neighbor as thyself” as a second commandment after the first and greatest commandment: to love God with all of our heart, soul and mind. Matthew 22:39
